Destination is an ongoing series focused on the tourism economy.
In the presence of increasing photographic saturation, how have our collective need to document vacations, trips, and events changed the way we experience a new environment. For this project, I both actively participate in being a tourist, whilst also aiming my lens at the things that stand out me about the designed experience of tourism. Being able to blend in with my camera has allowed me to gain access to an increasingly rare event— a candid photo. As our awareness of being recorded with image increases on a daily basis, so does our defensiveness to it.
The project also touches on topics such as displacement of native people in the Southwestern US, destruction of nature for tourism, and micro-economies that have sprung up around tourism centers.
